| Message: QUERY REGARDING INCOME TAX.
Sir,
My wife and I held some investments in the form of Fixed Deposits in banks jointly, her name being first. After she expired this year I am the single holder of these deposits. Is this amount taxable ?
More generally, is hereditary income taxable? Whether making of Will makes any difference in the taxability of hereditary incomes ?

Dear Sir,
Refer to "Let your second house pay for itself" (OM 15 February 2007). Some notional income is still taxable even if there is no actual income -such provisions like in case there are more than one self occupied houses or its vacant throughout the year where an assessee has more than one house -still its income (without actual income of any kind) is taxable. Such absurd provisions must be deleted.
