| Message: Sir/Madam,
I am a 31 year old female working for a MNC in Bangalore. Presently my
gross salary is 9 Lacks/anum.
For my tax planning I have made the following investments (including EPF).
Please review my investments and let me know if it requires tweaking from
the next year.
EPF: 2633*12 = 31596
LIC (Jeevan Shree): 35790
ELSS: 52100
1. HDFC Tax Saver : 1500*12(SIP) + 18500(Lumsum)=36500
2. HDFC Long Term Adv: 1300*12(SIP) = 15600
Apart from all these my company contributes 16.8% towards my retirals i.e
12% EPF and 4.8% gratuity.
In addition to all these I've SIPs in the following Mutual Funds.
1. DSPML Opp-G: 1500/month
2. Franklin India Prima-G: 2000/month.
3.HDFC Equity-G: 2000/month
4.Magnum Contra-G: 2000/month
5.Reliance Vision-G: 2000/month
6.Fidelity Equity-G: 1250/month
7.Sundaram Select Mid Cap-G:1500/month
Please give me an opinion about the abovementioned funds. My investment
horizon is 10 years.
An early reply would be appreciated.
Thanking you,
Regards
Mrinalini.

| Message: (Kindly note, my question does not deal specifically with insurance per se
but with nomination, specifically for PPF. The four areas of Expert
Advice indicated do not provide for nomination area, hence I have chosen
this as a default area, for insurance also needs nomination. In case the
area is wrong, would the Expert or the Editor kindly redirect it to the
appropriate area?)
Govt-sponsored small-saving schemes, such as PPF, POSB, PORD, NSC, etc
have provisions to nominate a person who would receive the proceeds in the
event of an eventuality. There is some confusion in this respect.
Sometime the investor would think it prudent to provide for more than one
nominee. For instance, a very old senior citizen having a PPF account
(PPF a/c can be opened only by a single individual, not jointly) may like
that her/his spouse should receive the amount in case of an eventuality.
However, the spouse too is expected to be a very old person in this case.
To cover such a situation, the investor may like to nominate two persons –
one, the spouse (A), and two, say, an offspring (B) – intending them to be
sequential and not joint nominee. That is, A would be the nominee if then
alive, but B if otherwise. Unfortunately the State Banks/Post Office,
where the account is opened, do not honour such wish, saying that multiple
nomination is interpreted only as joint nomination, i.e., the proceeds
would be compulsorily divided among the nominees (as per suggested
proportion if so indicated, equally if otherwise).
Please let me know if the latter interpretation is correct. If so, is
there any way to overcome the problem and make the nomination sequential
among the nominees? Please also let me know who is the administrative
authority of PPF scheme.
