That need for money that I see all around me was just never there. This despite the fact that I’ve been in a position where I haven’t had a penny in my pocket. Once, when I was a student, I was homeless for three weeks and used to sleep on a park bench. I didn’t have any money for my meals and would eat leftovers from a restaurant. So I know what a state of deprivation is like. I too have had my share of knocks. I’ve held sixty-six different jobs in my life. Lets see now... as a carpenter’s apprentice, as a serving attendant at MacDonald’s, as a shoeshine boy, even mopping floors.

I’m not a spoilt rich kid who grew up and said, "Papa, give me ten crores." I’ve made my films the hard way. So I have respect for money and I know how difficult it is to get and to keep. I simply spend whatever I earn. Mostly on travel, books and music. I don’t save at all. All told, money is an insignificant part of my life and doesn’t interest me one bit. Good work interests me. If you do good work, money follows and if it doesn’t? Well, who cares.
